This year’s conference The Dawning of a New Workplace will highlight the following themes:
Talent Attraction and Retention
No goal can be met, no strategy can be realized, and no customer can be served, unless you have the right people engaged and committed to the task. Statistics Canada advises that our workforce is undergoing a major change, as those born in the baby boomer generation approach retirement age and birthrates continue to decline. The changing demographics are creating “a war for talent”. As a result, companies will have to devise more imaginative recruiting practices and have to work harder to keep their best people.
Partnership/HR as a Strategic Partner
How does your organization view HR - as transactional support service or as a key business partner? For HR to become a business partner they need to tie HR planning into the organization’s business goals, and show how HR impacts key results, including the bottom line. HR needs to continually establish itself as a key partner with all business lines, as well with external stakeholders such as unions, lawyers, consultants, industry groups and regulatory bodies.
Creating a Healthy Workplace
Promoting and supporting the health and wellbeing of employees is a key strategy for achieving business excellence. According to the National Quality Institute, holistic workplace health systems provide support on many levels - physical, social, personal and developmental - to improve overall employee quality of life both within and outside the workplace. Employers who do this will see dramatic results, including improved morale, productivity and, ultimately, profitability.
Becoming a World Class Employer
In the fast paced, complex, global marketplace of the 21st century, the most successful organizations are those that excel at learning and change. These organizations have effective monitoring systems to track and predict trends that could impact their future success, and the internal structures and capabilities to anticipate and manage change. Being a world-class employer is not about being the biggest or the most profitable. Rather world class employers are recognized for their excellence, quality, sustainability, technology – and especially the ability to delight their key stakeholders, including customers, employees, regulators, shareholders, unions, and the communities in which they operate.
